The Chairman of a Town Council is entitled to use the title 'Town Mayor' and at its meeting on 26 June 2019 Bury St Edmunds Town Council resolved to use this title for its Chairman and use the title 'Deputy Town Mayor' instead of 'Vice Chairman'. Please visit the 'Your Councillors' page of this website for the names of the current 'Mayor of Bury St Edmunds" and Deputy Mayor. (By the way, ladies who are elected as Town Mayor are still called Town Mayor and addressed as Madam Mayor instead of 'Mr Mayor'.
Following the creation of the West Suffolk District Council (from the former Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council) there is no longer a 'Mayor of St Edmundsbury' or 'Borough Mayor'. A District Council has to use the titles of 'Chairman' and 'Vice Chairman'; only a Borough can have a Mayor.
Bury St Edmunds Mayor for 2024/2025 is Cllr Diane Hind & Deputy Mayor, Cllr Donna Higgins.
