Local government elections

Bury St Edmunds Town Council is made up of 16 councillors. Local Councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities. They represent public interest as well as individuals living within the ward in which he or she has been elected to serve a 4 year term of office.

They have regular contact with the general public through council meetings, telephone calls or surgeries. Surgeries provide an opportunity for any ward resident to go and talk their councillor face to face and these take place on a regular basis.

Town Councillors are not paid a salary for their work. By law, all members of the Council are required to complete a declaration of interest form, the details of which are published annually.

Some councillors are also West Suffolk District Councillors.

Along with Town and District, 2 County Councillors and 1 Member of Parliament also represent Bury St Edmunds.

Suffolk County Council elections - These were due to take place on the 01 May 2025, however due to Suffolk being part of the Devolution programme, these elections will not take place. See here for more information on 'A Devolution Deal for Suffolk'.

Town & District Council elections - These are scheduled to take place on the 06 May 2027. If a vacancy becomes available before then, it will be advertised on this page.
