The Deputy Mayor of Bury St Edmunds
COUNCILLOR DIANE HIND

Councillor Diane Hind is the Deputy Mayor of Bury St Edmunds. This follows on from a two year term of being the Mayor from 2023-2025. She is the Town council ward Councillor for the Tollgate area.

Diane was born in 1953 in Walthamstow before her family moved to Essex. They settled in Bury St Edmunds in 1993. Following a traditional education achieving both 'O' and 'A' levels, Diane went to work as an Insurance broker, putting her dreams of being a teacher or librarian on hold. She has fulfilled one of her dreams which was working on a Hospital radio request show.

The radio show was where Diane met Cliff, her husband of 47 years. Together they had a son named Kevin who also served as a town councillor for 10 years. Diane became a West Suffolk District Councillor in 2011 and has served both town and district council since 2015. She is the portfolio holder for Resources at the district council.

In any spare time, Diane enjoys reading, going to the cinema and has been keen on anything relating to the Theatre and Arts since she was a teenager. More recently Diane has started playing Bridge. She has a keen interest in social history and loves to visit museums.

Her more favourite things are eating Italian food, Lake Como in Northern Italy, along with reading and is a huge supporter of West Ham United, a pass-time she enjoyed with her late husband and Kevin. Diane and Kevin still attend regular games today.

When asked about her greatest achievements, Diane said she is incredibly proud of serving the town as a councillor, anything she can do to help people and make a difference in their lives, feeling incredibly humbled by the amount of volunteer groups that support Bury St Edmunds.
